Swallowfield Show - Horticultural 4

Welcome to the 2023 Show 27 and 28 August

TThe Swallowfield Show is created by the community for the community. Over 100 locals help to ensure we can stage the show each year by giving their time and expertise freely. A successful show enables the committee to make donations to local charities who depend on supporters to keep their doors open. Each year we try to bring something new and 2023 is no exception. So why not put the date in your diary and read on to see what we have in store…

The horticultural marquee will once again be at the centre of the show and we need to fill it with exhibits so why not get growing and show off your produce and flowers and maybe win a first in one of the many categories to choose from. If your fingers are not green perhaps you excel at art, photography, cooking, needlework or jam making? If so click the link to see the full listing of categories you can enter. There is a wide range of categories specifically for children, let them get inspired to make something. The more imaginative the better!

Entertainment for all the Family

There is a lot going on in the main arena, the village green and the activity zone. We know that everyone likes a good show, and all good shows have a mix of fun, daring-do and music! To entertain this year in the main arena we will be hosting the Tigers children’s motorcycle dispplay team, the Misselchalke Gun Dog display team, Ye Olde Redtail  Falconry display along with bands yet to be announced.

Over at the village green it is a bit more laid back. Musicians will be on stage throughout the day to keep toes tapping. Situated near to the bar area this is a great location to get a cold drink, maybe a snack and linger for a while to let the music relax you.

We know the children won’t want to be relaxing, so for them we are creating an activity zone to keep them occupied. The selection of activities is not final yet, but last year we had roundabouts, bouncy castles, kart rides, donkey rides, china smashing and a magician to name but some.

2022 Acts

Shows within the show – Horses, Dogs and Cars!

A country show would not be complete without animals. Whilst we can’t provide cattle and pigs, we do have a great Horse Show with many classes for novices and experienced riders and a Dog Show for all types of pooches. We love to see all the breeds, big and small, and smile at the naughtiest puppies and the most gorgeous waggy tails.
If horses and dogs are not your thing, fear not! The collection of classic cars that visit the show is truly amazing. There is a wide variety of vehicles and their owners are very happy to chat about the history of their car or van, the trouble it was to renovate and the hours they spend polishing it! Do have a wander round and choose your favourite. Lat year over the two days there were about 120 to decide between…

Swallowfield Horticultural Society

We are always looking for new members to join the Society and would love to welcome you to find out more about us. Whilst the Swallowfield Show is our major focus for a lot of the year we also stage a Spring, Summer and Autumn show where we admire each other’s produce and flowers and generally have a good catch up. We also manage the Swallowfield Village Open Gardens event each year in aid of the National Garden Scheme. Last year ten gardens were open in the village and visitors were treated to some wonderful gardens aswell as tea and cakes after all the exertion. There were even some plants to buy for their own gardens. The event raised over £3,000 for the nursing charities supported by the National Garden Scheme.

Please do join us on the afternoon of the 25th March for our Spring Show. Click the link for the schedule of categories that will be judged, the more entries the better! And don’t worry if that all sounds too daunting, just come along for tea and cake and a chat.
